Tabernaemontana dichotoma is a shrub or a tree usually growing from 2 to 12 metres tall, exceptionally to 20 metres. The bole can be 15 to 30 cm in diameter. The plant is sometimes harvested from the wild for local use as a medicine.
Medicinal
The fruits are used in the treatment of ulcers and fistulae.
The latex is used to soften and ripen boils and carbuncles.
Pounded leaves and bark are externally applied on snake and centipede bites. A preparation of the bark is poulticed on grazed skin as an antiseptic and astringent.
Chewing the roots is said to relieve toothache.
Other Uses
The pale-coloured wood is fine-grained and moderately hard.
