Dypsis sp. (Jurassic Park)

Very rare species

This large palm known only from cultivation remains a bit of a mystery. While the plant matches Dypsis oropedionis well, its seeds have a homogenous endosperm while the seeds of D. oropedionis apparently have a ruminate endosperm. It has a robust, ringed trunk topped by a long crownshaft that is bright waxy orange after an old leafsheath falls and a spreading crown of large, ascending, strongly plumose leaves with dark green, broad leaflets that have drooping tips. In cultivation it adapts well to tropical as well as some warm temperate climates.
